You may be right Mark but I'd bet a cool pint of Guinness that you're wrong. Disclaimer: You'll have to visit Ireland to claim your prize!

Thank you for my evening chuckle.

How about this: .co loses about 50% of its landrush registrations after the first expiry cycle and takes another 10 years to approach these levels?

Which one is more likely?

.co will surpass .com within 3 years and become the preferred global extension of choice.
It's short and sweet, looks good, sounds good and with google's instant search switched on, which it is on most computers, .co comes before .com An example of this - type bimmer.com [a bmw site] You'll notice that bimmer.co [also a bmw site] appears first as your typing.
It's a no brainer!

Interesting mention of .co for a holding company, as one of the few .co's I did grab for fun was "hold.co". I also grabbed a .co that I liked a lot but have been unable to get under another tld (prometheus.co), so there is that appeal.

In terms of "Yes. But..." Great! Keep the comments coming, I'd really love to take the discussion of domaining beyond "XYZ.NN sold for $$$$$ and KJW.IU sold for $$$" etc etc.

I completely agree with Mike Dew. While yes, the "domainers" rushing in to buy .COs on the hopes of flipping or who think typo traffic is going to drive revenues are going to be disappointed.

But beyond North America .COM's reign is not so absolute. .CO=company
Just like .AG has an appeal to the Krauts.

For me, my couple .COs include a name for a holding company that I wanted to use and will now be able to brand as (for example) The Something Company and the other one I am going to use the .CO as part of the logo forming the word COffee for a bricks & mortar business.

As a graphic designer turn domain entrepreneur, I frankly find .CO just looks better in a logo, especially if the brand includes the word 'company'.

As with all of the posts at WVI, I find myself saying "Yes. But..."

I think the .co ext is very appealing and agree if it were .ci or .cs, etc. that the appeal would not be the same.

I have bought some .co domains and do consider myself to be an investor, but look forward to building out some of my .co sites.

I find the appeal to be in the context of "company". There are many businesses who do not have the opportunity to get the domain that they really want in the .com extension. They most likely will never get the .com domain that they would like to have.

Business continues to expand on the Internet and will only continue to do so. Many new businesses will be created on the Internet as we go into the future. The .co will be very appealing to these people and businesses in my opinion.

I think the .CO quickly has the potential to surpass .net and take place as #2. The fact that Google has said it will recognize .CO as an International Domain makes all of the difference for this ext. to have success.

Look for .CO to do well.

Ok, here is just a test I've made today, I've create a business card and add:
Steve S....
My adress
My phone
My email
and my website (virtual one): www.greatwebsite.co

Here is something funny cause when I printed out first I didn't even notice I've type .com rather than .co, must be automatic :)
Then I re-edit my business card and printed 10.
I show to my co-worker and said this is my new website, take a look. About 5 out of 5 (100%) read it and said something like (there is a typo on my web adress) they said the "m" was missing.
So I really think that .co sucks!

Francois - Great insight. I love the "people play lottery" comparison.

Chris: I think some domainers will need a rather large shovel. :-)
